Job Summary
The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is Chilliwack’s very own home for the arts! The two theatres currently host a well-weighted mix of local, national and international performances, providing thrilling entertainment drawing audiences from the City of Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley. Within this 65,000 square-foot building is the stunning O’Connor Group Art Gallery, and four art and craft studios for creativity to flourish!
The Takeover Festival will be a 1-day event that is curated, marketed, produced, and presented by students on June 1st, 2024. The Takeover Festival Artistic Director, under the guidance and supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for the artistic direction of the Takeover Festival curating events and providing oversight and direction related to all aspects of festival development, marketing, and production.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Establish a theme for the festival as required and put out a call for proposals to artists and ensembles.
Curate and schedule all festival events
Act as primary contact for all festival needs
Coordinate festival details with all festival volunteers and staff
Oversee festival marketing and production
Launch and trouble shoot the festival - maintaining an active and engaged role throughout the festival
Adhering to all Chilliwack Cultural Centre policies and procedures
Candidate: This position is ideal for an individual with a passion for the performing arts who is organized and a strong leader. The successful candidate will be well organized, adaptable, and a team player eager to contribute to developing, managing, and producing a successful festival.
Note: Students will be part of a crew supervised by SOCA faculty and mentored by industry professionals at Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Since the festival will take place on June 1st, 2024, students will register for Winter 2024 and the course will run from March 6 – June 7th, 2024. Students who plan to graduate in Summer 2024 will still be able to do so.
