The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is Chilliwack’s very own home for the arts! The two theatres currently host a well-weighted mix of local, national and international performances, providing thrilling entertainment drawing audiences from the City of Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley. Within this 65,000 square-foot building is the stunning O’Connor Group Art Gallery, and four art and craft studios for creativity to flourish!
The Takeover Festival will be a 1 day event that is curated, marketed, produced, and presented by students on June 1st 2024. The Takeover Festival Technical Director, under the guidance and supervision of the Technical Director, is responsible for directing the provision of all stage services related to the Takeover Festival shows, productions, and presentations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Schedule appropriate technical crew for all festival events
Act as primary technical contact for all festival technical needs
Coordinate festival details with the Festival Artistic Director and Festival Production Manager
Acting as crew for festival shows when needed
Integrating the safe and successful use of outside equipment as needed for events
Ensuring that all safety policies, procedures, and requirements are followed by festival performers and crew
Adhering to all Chilliwack Cultural Centre policies and procedures
Candidate: This position is ideal for an individual with knowledge of the theatre with intermediate to advanced theatre technical knowledge and skills. The successful candidate will be well organized, adaptable, and a team player eager to contribute to developing and producing a successful festival.
Note: Students will be part of a crew supervised by SOCA faculty and mentored by industry professionals at Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Since the festival will take place on June 1st, 2024, students will register for Winter 2024 and the course will run from March 6 – June 7th 2024. Students who plan to graduate in Summer 2024 will still be able to do so.
